A two-day hands-on workshop on hand-crafted Jutti (Nagra), the traditional footwear of Haryana, was successfully conducted on 15th December 2025 at FDDI Rohtak. The workshop was led by Mr.Bhag Singh & Mr. Rajesh - skilled artisan from the Panipat craft cluster, renowned for its heritage in traditional footwear craftsmanship.
The workshop familiarized students with age-old techniques, tools, and processes involved in making Nagra, including material selection, pattern cutting, hand stitching, sole preparation, shaping, and finishing, while highlighting the cultural significance of this craft.
Students actively participated, gaining valuable hands-on experience under the artisan’s guidance. Some students also explored contemporary design interpretations, experimenting with motifs, colors, and structural variations while respecting the traditional silhouette.
The program provided a platform for meaningful interaction between artisans and students, fostering knowledge exchange and promoting cultural continuity. The workshop was highly enriching, deepening students’ understanding of heritage footwear practices and encouraging innovation rooted in tradition.
