Ms. Dhivya S, Junior Faculty, School of Fashion Design (FD), FDDI Chennai, has published a research article in the Scopus-indexed international journal Tekstilec (2025, Vol. 68, Issue 3) titled “Customization of Brassiere Underwire Design: Leveraging 3D Printing for Enhanced Pressure Distribution.” The study examines the use of 3D printing technology to redesign conventional brassiere underwires with the aim of improving comfort, fit, and pressure distribution.
The research reports a significant reduction in localized pressure at key anatomical points compared to traditional metal underwires under both static and dynamic conditions. The findings highlight improved anatomical conformity, enhanced wearer comfort, and reliable structural stability through customized, flexible 3D-printed underwires. The study underscores the potential of additive manufacturing in intimate apparel, supporting mass customization and user-centric design innovation, and reflects the strong culture of academic rigor and research excellence at FDDI.
